Q8 How does my hanging fixture get power?

Q8 How does my hanging fixture get power?

The hanging fixture connects to a round connection plate (usually red or white), on the hoist, which is about 85mm in diameter and goes up and down when the hoist is operated. On the underside of this connection plate there is a shackle arrangement to hold your fixture and three female electrical pins (two lives - L1 & L2, and a neutral - N). Your fixture wires to this connection plate, using spade connectors to push onto the pins. On the upper side of the connection plate are three metal rings. When the connection plate lowers it disconnects from the power supply. This is a safety feature to allow persons to work on the hanging fixture completely free from the risk of electrocution. When the connection plate is in the fully raised position the three rings make contact with three copper pins on the hoist which reconnects power to the fixture.

In short the plate un-plugs from power when lowered and plugs itself in when fully raised. There is no cable reel and there is no winding or un-winding of electrical cable.
